Making Soup with JoziStyle
Soup is just misery in a bowl until you transform it into a showstopper.
Soup is the ultimate comfort food during the frosty months. What I love most about soup is its incredible versatility. It’s a culinary blank canvas where you can unleash your creativity and make magic happen with whatever ingredients you have lying around in your kitchen. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to reduce food waste by using up those veggies that are on the brink of going bad. Unfortunately, soup does get a bad rap for being unappetising unless you get creative with your preparation and presentation.
Soup Ingredients and Preparation
When it comes to crafting the perfect pot of soup, I like to start with a solid foundation of aromatic veggies—onions, garlic, and celery— sautéed in a generous drizzle of olive oil and a dollop of butter. Then, I layer on the flavours with a medley of herbs, spices, and stocks, letting everything simmer until the broth is bursting with rich, savoury goodness. And let’s not forget about the star players—the beans, lentils, and other hearty ingredients that add texture and depth to the final dish.
Soup Presentation
Presentation is key when it comes to elevating your soup from ordinary to extraordinary. A sprinkle of fresh herbs, a swirl of sour cream, or a handful of crunchy croutons can take your soup to new heights of deliciousness. Get creative with your garnishes and let your imagination run wild!
And there you have it—my top tips for conquering Johannesburg’s ever-changing weather and whipping up a batch of soul-soothing soup that will warm you from the inside out. So grab your ladle and get cooking, because there’s nothing like a steaming bowl of homemade soup to chase away the winter blues!
